Controversy in WPL Over Stumping: Delhi Player Fined After Disputed Dismissal

A controversy erupted in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) when Lizelle Lee of Delhi Capitals was given out stumped during their match against Mumbai Indians. Following the incident, Lee has been penalized.

Penalty for Lizelle Lee
Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee has been fined 10% of her match fee and given one demerit point for violating the WPL Code of Conduct. The incident occurred when Lee, chasing a target of 155 runs, was dismissed for 46. The third umpire’s extensive review confirmed the stumping decision.

Lee accepted a Level 1 offense, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment during the match. A WPL statement clarified that in cases of Level 1 violations, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.

Disputed Stumping
Television replays showed that when wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous dislodged the bails, Lee’s bat had lifted slightly above the crease. This meant she fell just four runs short of her third half-century of the season. At the presentation ceremony, Lee reacted with composure, saying, “The keeper took a very good catch. That’s all I have to say.”

Delhi Capitals Clinch Victory
Despite the controversy, Delhi Capitals secured a 7-wicket victory while chasing the target of 155. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant unbeaten 51 off 37 balls, guiding her team to a win. With this result, Delhi Capitals remain strong in the playoff race. Currently, four teams are tied with four points each, while former champions Royal Challengers Bangalore top the points table.
