Chennai Super Kings Eye Key Signings Ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

New Delhi: With less than a week to go for the IPL 2026 auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are preparing to strengthen their squad. The mega-event will be held on 16 December at Abu Dhabi, where 359 shortlisted players will go under the hammer from a pool of approximately 1,400 entries. CSK, holding the second-largest purse, aims to acquire up to nine players, including four overseas stars, with ₹43.4 crore at their disposal.

CSK Squad Overview

Current squad members include: MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Sanju Samson, Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Urvil Patel, Noor Ahmad, Nathan Ellis, Shreyas Gopal, Khalil Ahmed, Ramkrishna Ghosh, Mukesh Choudhary, Jamie Overton, Gurjapneet Singh, Anshul Kamboj.

Focus on Overseas All-Rounders

CSK’s most pressing requirement is for an overseas all-rounder capable of contributing with both bat and ball. The departure of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran has left a gap that could see CSK targeting Australia’s Cameron Green. Another option is Liam Livingstone, a proven finisher and skillful spin bowler.

Backup Fast Bowlers Needed

CSK already has pace options in Nathan Ellis, Mukesh Choudhary, Jamie Overton, Gurjapneet Singh, and Anshul Kamboj, but an additional overseas pacer is on their wishlist. Potential candidates in the first auction set include Gerald Coetzee, Jacob Duffy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Matt Henry.

Spin Department Requirements

The spin department has thinned after R Ashwin’s retirement and Jadeja’s trade, leaving only Noor Ahmad and Shreyas Gopal. CSK is likely to target a finger-spinner, with Mahish Tikshna, a former CSK player, among the potential options.

As the IPL 2026 auction approaches, CSK fans will be eagerly watching which marquee players their franchise manages to bring on board to bolster the defending champions’ squad.
