Bangladeshi Hindu Captain Litton Das Voices Concern Amid T20 World Cup Controversy

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s T20 captain Litton Das has spoken out amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the team’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India. When asked about the situation, Das declined to comment, stating that it was “not safe” for him to speak on the matter.

Participation Still Uncertain
The uncertainty stems from disputes between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over safety concerns. With just two weeks left before the World Cup, Bangladesh’s participation remains unresolved. Das indicated that even he is unsure about the team’s future in the tournament, saying, “Are you sure we are going to play in the World Cup? I am uncertain, everyone is uncertain. I think the whole of Bangladesh is uncertain at this moment. No comment. I understand the question, but it is not safe for me to answer.”

Request to Shift Matches to Sri Lanka
The BCB had requested ICC to host their matches in Sri Lanka instead of India due to security concerns. However, ICC has so far declined to approve the request, and no resolution has been reached despite several meetings.

Bangladesh Government Stance
Earlier, Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul reiterated that the national team will not travel to India under any circumstances for the World Cup. If BCB maintains its stance, Scotland could replace Bangladesh in the tournament according to current rankings.

The situation continues to cast a shadow over the upcoming T20 World Cup, with the cricketing world closely monitoring Bangladesh’s final decision.
