Bangladesh vs Ireland 2nd Test: Players Flee Dressing Rooms as 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Mirpur

Dhaka: A sudden 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday, causing panic during the second day of the Bangladesh vs Ireland 2nd Test in Mirpur. The earthquake’s epicenter was near Dhaka, and its tremors were felt as far as Kolkata and Guwahati, India. Players from both teams had to rush out of the dressing rooms to safety as the stadium building shook. Fortunately, no injuries or damage to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium have been reported.

The Moment of Panic
The earthquake struck during Ireland’s innings, specifically in the 55th over when Mehedi Hasan Miraz was bowling to Stephen Doheny and Lorcan Tucker. On the second ball of the over, after Doheny ran a single, the stadium began to tremble. Spectators screamed in panic while players sprinted toward the boundary lines for safety. Within seconds, the tremors subsided, but fear lingered among both fans and players.

Match Halted Temporarily
The sudden quake led to a brief stoppage in the match. Even the press box experienced chaos, with reporters rushing down the stairs to find safe ground. The building reportedly shook violently, forcing everyone to evacuate quickly.

Wide Impact
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake’s epicenter was near Narsingdi, about 13 kilometers south of Dhaka. The tremors were strong enough to be felt across northeastern India, including cities like Agartala. Despite the intensity, no reports of structural damage or injuries have emerged.

The match resumed shortly after, but the earthquake served as a reminder of nature’s unpredictability, leaving players and fans momentarily shaken.
