New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to reconsider the venue for its T20 World Cup matches in India, citing security concerns. The board has clarified that it is not in communication with the BCCI, stating that the event is under ICC jurisdiction.
This development comes after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was withdrawn from the IPL 2026 following protests over his participation, triggered by reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. The BCB expressed that the safety of its players is the top priority as the T20 World Cup, hosted by India and Sri Lanka, approaches next month.
BCB waits on ICC response
BCB President Aminul Islam told reporters on Monday that the board had convened two meetings with all directors before arriving at the decision. He said, “At this time, we do not feel it is safe to send our team to India for the World Cup. We have emailed the ICC and are awaiting their response for a meeting where we can express our concerns.”
Islam emphasized that Bangladesh’s next move depends entirely on ICC’s response. He added, “We are not in contact with the BCCI because this is an ICC event. Any decisions we make will follow ICC guidance.”
T20 World Cup 2026 schedule for Bangladesh
Bangladesh is placed in Group C alongside West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal. The team is scheduled to play three group-stage matches at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, while the final group match will take place at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
The BCB’s stance has sparked widespread debate about security arrangements and the organization of international cricket tournaments in the region.
