Bangladesh Defeat India 1–0; Blue Tigers Still Winless in AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers

India’s struggles in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers continued as they suffered a 1–0 defeat against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday. The hosts registered their first win of the qualifiers, while the Blue Tigers remained without a single victory after five matches.

Bangladesh Clinch Victory with Early Goal

Bangladesh started with intent despite an inconsistent opening to their campaign. In just the 12th minute, Sheikh Morsalin scored the decisive goal, giving his team a lead they held onto for the rest of the match.

India failed to convert opportunities and remained goalless throughout the game. The loss keeps India at the bottom of the points table, with only two points from two draws. Bangladesh, meanwhile, climbed to third place with five points (one win and two draws).

India Miss Golden Chance in First Half

India’s best opportunity came around the half-hour mark. Forward Rahim Ali dispossessed Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma and set up Macarton Louis Nixon, who then passed the ball to Lallianzuala Chhangte for what looked like a certain goal.
However, Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Choudhury produced a brilliant last-second block with his head, denying India the equalizer.

Second Half Changes, But No Breakthrough

Coach Jamil introduced fresh faces in the second half, giving debuts to Mohammed Sanan and Lalremfllwanga Fanai, hoping to ignite India’s attack. Despite increased pressure and better movement, India still couldn’t find the back of the net.

India’s Final Qualifier Ahead

India will play their last qualifier match at home against Hong Kong on 31 March next year, hoping to finally open their account with a victory.
