3 Players Poised to Replace Ravindra Jadeja Ahead of 2027 ODI World Cup

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is evaluating potential replacements for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI format, with discussions gaining momentum following his underwhelming performances in the recent series against New Zealand. With the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, selectors are exploring new options to strengthen India’s all-rounder department.

Shahbaz Ahmed: A Strong Contender
West Bengal’s Shahbaz Ahmed is emerging as a leading candidate to succeed Jadeja. Boasting extensive domestic experience and notable performances in the IPL, Shahbaz is currently in excellent form. His recent outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was particularly impressive—he scored 390 runs in 6 innings at an average of 130 and a strike rate of 103.78, while also taking 6 wickets, demonstrating his all-round capabilities.

Riyan Parag: India’s Future Prospect
Young talent Riyan Parag from Assam is also being considered as a long-term solution. He made his national debut on the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in 2024 and left a positive impression. Although currently sidelined due to injury, Parag is being groomed behind the scenes and has also performed well for India ‘A’, indicating his potential to fill Jadeja’s role in the coming years.

Manav Suthar: A Viable Spin All-Rounder Option
Haryana’s Manav Suthar presents another compelling option. Debuting in 2023, Suthar has delivered strong performances in List-A cricket, showcasing bowling skills comparable to Jadeja. While players like Krunal Pandya, Harsh Dubey, and Tanush Kotian are also in the mix, Suthar’s consistency and adaptability make him a reliable long-term choice for the Indian ODI setup.

As the selectors prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup, India’s focus on nurturing new spin-bowling all-rounders could mark the next phase of transition in the national team, ensuring a smooth succession for Jadeja’s pivotal role.
