The Bihar government has announced the construction of a grand corridor for the Badi Patandevi Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peeths in the country, located in Patna. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, highlighting the state government’s commitment to promoting religious tourism, heritage conservation, and local economic growth.
Announcement at Workers’ Felicitation Ceremony
The declaration was made during a BJP workers’ felicitation ceremony held at Kiel Seven Venkat Hall near Raja Ghat in Patna City. The event was organized to honour party workers from the Bankipur and Patna Sahib assembly constituencies following the NDA’s historic victory in the Assembly elections.
Senior BJP leaders, including State BJP President Dr. Dilip Jaiswal, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, praised party workers for their dedication, calling them the backbone of every electoral success.
Boost to Religious Tourism and Employment
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the proposed Badi Patandevi Corridor would significantly enhance religious tourism in Bihar. Improved infrastructure and better facilities for devotees are expected to increase footfall, which in turn will generate employment opportunities for local residents.
“With the growth of tourism, local hotels, restaurants, transport services, and small traders will benefit directly,” he said, adding that the corridor would give a new economic push to the historic Patna City area.
Focus on Safety and Governance
Addressing governance priorities, Choudhary noted that women’s safety, particularly that of school and college-going girls, was a key agenda in the government’s first cabinet meeting. He announced the formation of ‘Police Didi’ units, which will play an active role in ensuring the safety and confidence of female students. He also informed that MLA Ratnesh Kumar has been appointed as a whip in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
Why the Badi Patandevi Corridor Matters
The core objective of the Nitish government is to ensure the holistic development of the Badi Patandevi Temple complex. The corridor project aims to:
- Improve facilities and accessibility for devotees
- Enhance the aesthetic appeal of the temple surroundings
- Develop Patna as a major religious and spiritual tourism hub
- Strengthen the local economy through sustained tourism growth
Profound Religious Significance
The Badi Patandevi Temple holds immense spiritual importance and is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peeths. According to legend, a part of Goddess Sati’s ‘pata’ (garment) fell at this sacred site. The temple is revered as the divine confluence of Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, and Mahakali, making it a major center of faith for devotees across the country.
A Step Towards Cultural Revival
With the proposed corridor, the Bihar government seeks not only to modernize infrastructure but also to preserve and showcase the state’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The Badi Patandevi Corridor is expected to emerge as a landmark project, reinforcing Patna’s identity as a prominent destination on India’s religious map.
