Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh politics is witnessing renewed activity as former Governor Kalraj Mishra has returned to the forefront of active political engagement, particularly mobilizing upper-caste communities. Mishra’s recent statements and organizational initiatives have sparked discussions about his motivations and future ambitions.
During the debate over the UGC’s new rules, most upper-caste BJP leaders remained silent. However, Mishra, who served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, openly opposed the regulations, demanding their withdrawal. His vocal stance has highlighted not only his concern for community issues but also his continued political relevance.
Formation of ‘Vishva Brahmin Kalyan Parishad’
Recently, Mishra founded the Vishva Brahmin Kalyan Parishad, a global organization aimed at uniting Brahmins. He has already conducted large gatherings and conferences under this banner, both in Delhi and Rajasthan, connecting Brahmins nationally and internationally.
Political observers are now questioning his intentions: Is he attempting to re-establish himself as a key Brahmin leader within the BJP, or does he have broader political ambitions? Despite having served two terms as Governor—a position from which many leaders typically distance themselves from active politics—Mishra has maintained a high profile.
A Political Veteran’s Return
Kalraj Mishra has long been a prominent figure in UP politics:
- Twice served as BJP state president
- Held ministerial portfolios in PWD, Medical Education, and Micro & Small Industries
- Elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014
- Served as Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan
After completing his gubernatorial tenure, Mishra launched the Vishva Brahmin Kalyan Parishad in November 2025, organizing a major conference in Delhi in December, attended by leaders including former Deputy CM Dr. Dinesh Sharma.
When the UGC regulations controversy arose, Mishra once again stepped forward, holding a press conference in Noida, calling the rules “unconstitutional” and asserting that they must be repealed to achieve a developed India by 2047.
His actions signal that Kalraj Mishra is actively shaping discourse on community and constitutional issues, reinforcing his position as a key political influencer in UP, even after serving in constitutional roles.
