Why Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘120 Bahadur’ Movie Visit Brought Back an Old Nirahua Interview

Farhan Akhtar’s film “120 Bahadur” has once again ignited the conversation around the creation of an Ahir Regiment in the Indian Army. The movie showcases the bravery of 120 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives while fighting Chinese troops—most of them belonging to the Ahir community.

Akhilesh Yadav Praises the Film

Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav recently watched the film at Lucknow’s Phoenix Palassio Mall, accompanied by Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad and several party leaders. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister praised the film, stating that it honours the courage of Ahir soldiers.

He also highlighted that the SP was the first political party to include the demand for an Ahir Regiment in its manifesto. “If our Ahir brothers are demanding a regiment, we support them wholeheartedly,” Akhilesh said.

Nirahua’s Old Interview Resurfaces

Amid renewed debate, an old interview of Bhojpuri actor and former BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ has gone viral on social media. In the video, Nirahua targets Akhilesh Yadav and the SP over the Ahir Regiment issue.

‘Why Was the Regiment Not Created When Mulayam Was Defence Minister?’

In the interview with ‘UP Tak’, Nirahua questions:

“Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Defence Minister. Why didn’t the Ahir Regiment get created then? Why don’t people ask the SP this question? Akhilesh Yadav was Chief Minister—why didn’t he push for it? If a CM couldn’t create it, how can an MP do it?”

Nirahua further adds with sarcasm:

“Make me the Defence Minister. I will create the Ahir Regiment the very next day.”

He also said that his role as an MP was to raise issues in Parliament—including the demand for an Ahir Regiment and granting official language status to the Bhojpuri language.

Akhilesh Responds to Critics

Reacting to criticism, Akhilesh said that people from the Ahir community in Rajasthan and Gujarat often protest against him.
“But if my own people are demanding the Ahir Regiment, it makes me happy. Every community that demands a regiment should get one,” he stated.
