Who Will Replace Nitin Nabin in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet? BJP Weighs Three Key Names

Patna: Following the appointment of senior BJP leader and five-time MLA Nitin Nabin as the party’s National Executive President, political discussions have intensified in Bihar over who will replace him in the Nitish Kumar-led state cabinet.

Nitin Nabin, currently the MLA from Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna district, holds the Road Construction Department portfolio in the Bihar government. However, with the BJP strictly enforcing its long-standing “One Person, One Post” principle, Nabin is expected to relinquish his ministerial position to focus on his national organisational role.

BJP’s ‘One Person, One Post’ Rule Comes Into Effect

The Bharatiya Janata Party follows a clear organisational policy that does not allow any leader to hold both a government position and a major party post simultaneously. With Nitin Nabin, aged 45, taking charge as National Executive President, the rule is set to be applied, making his exit from the Bihar cabinet almost inevitable.

Three BJP Leaders in the Race

According to party sources, the BJP leadership is deliberating over three prominent leaders as potential replacements in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. The names under serious consideration are Sanjay Mayukh, Sanjeev Chaurasia, and Arun Sinha. Each candidate brings a distinct political and social equation to the table.

Sanjay Mayukh

A senior leader from the Kayastha community, Dr. Sanjay Mayukh is a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC). He is considered close to several top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. A native of Vaishali district, Mayukh is known for his disciplined organisational work and low-profile political style. Party insiders view him as a strong contender with solid backing from the central leadership.

Sanjeev Chaurasia

Sanjeev Chaurasia, a prominent leader from the Vaishya community, represents the Digha Assembly constituency. He is the son of Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad and currently serves as State General Secretary of the BJP’s Bihar unit. Given the importance of caste balance within the cabinet, Chaurasia’s name is being actively considered by the party leadership.

Arun Sinha

Another strong contender is Arun Sinha, former BJP MLA from the Kumhrar Assembly constituency in Patna. By inducting Sinha, the BJP could maintain its representation from the Kayastha community in the state cabinet. Although Sinha did not contest the most recent assembly election, sources suggest that the party could nominate him to the Legislative Council against the vacant seat earlier held by Samrat Choudhary, paving the way for his entry into the Nitish Kumar government.

Decision Awaited

While no official announcement has been made yet, party sources indicate that a final decision could be taken soon after consultations between the BJP’s central and state leadership. The choice will likely reflect a combination of organisational experience, caste representation, and political strategy ahead of upcoming electoral challenges in Bihar.
