
Vaishali: During Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Samriddhi Yatra in Vaishali, District Magistrate Varsha Singh drew attention as she warmly welcomed the Chief Minister with a bouquet of red roses. A 2016-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, Varsha Singh is widely known for her efficient administration, zero tolerance towards corruption and strong commitment to social welfare.
Originally hailing from Khagaria district of Bihar, Varsha Singh’s family is now settled in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Coming from a middle-class background, she cracked the prestigious UPSC examination while simultaneously teaching children, a journey that reflects her determination and dedication.
Currently serving as the District Magistrate of Vaishali, Varsha Singh has earned a reputation not only as a capable administrator but also as a sensitive and people-centric officer. From tackling floods to taking firm action against corruption, she has left a distinct mark in every role she has held.
Recognition for Relief Work During Floods
Varsha Singh’s administrative acumen came into sharp focus during her posting as Assistant Collector in Muzaffarpur. During the devastating floods of 2017, she launched a commendable initiative to distribute free sanitary napkins to women and adolescent girls. Her humanitarian approach in ensuring food supply and educational arrangements for flood-affected families received widespread appreciation across the state.
Firm Stand Against Corruption
While serving as Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in Gopalganj, Varsha Singh took strict action against corruption, earning respect for her integrity and fearless working style. Later, during her tenure as Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) in Katihar, she was honoured with the ‘Best ERO’ award. Under her leadership, development initiatives in the district were also recognised by NITI Aayog, which granted an incentive amount of Rs 3 crore.
Passion for Education and Social Service
Deeply inclined towards social work since childhood, Varsha Singh has consistently supported the education of underprivileged children by teaching them and providing study materials. She has also served as a faculty member at BIPARD, where she trained probationary officers. For her outstanding contributions to education and public service, she has received several medals and awards.
With a blend of administrative efficiency, integrity and compassion, IAS Varsha Singh continues to set an inspiring example in public service.
