Barmer: Senior BJP leader and former MP Manvendra Singh Jasol has been provided enhanced security following a threat received from abroad. According to a CID intelligence report, there were inputs suggesting a potential risk to his life. As a precaution, four police personnel have been deployed to provide round-the-clock protection for Jasol.
Political Background
Manvendra Singh Jasol hails from a prominent political family in western Rajasthan. He has previously served as both a Member of Parliament and a state legislator.
- In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he was elected as an MP on a BJP ticket.
- In 2013, he won the Shiv Assembly seat in Jaisalmer.
Jasol’s family has long-standing political influence in the region.
Family Legacy
Manvendra Singh’s father, Jaswant Singh Jasol, was a senior politician who served twice as a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, including as Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister. In 2014, after being denied a BJP ticket, Jaswant Singh contested as an independent candidate but lost. He passed away later that year due to injuries sustained from a domestic accident.
Return to BJP
Earlier sidelined by the party, Manvendra Singh had briefly joined Congress and contested the 2018 Assembly elections from Jhalrapatan, facing setbacks. In 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, he rejoined BJP, facilitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 12, 2024, marking his political comeback.
Security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of the senior leader amid the ongoing threat.
