Who is Krishna Kumar Rishi: From Clash with Pappu Yadav to a Place in Bihar’s VVIP List

Patna, Bihar: The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has strengthened the NDA’s legislative wing by assigning significant responsibilities to nine MLAs. Among them, BJP MLA Krishna Kumar Rishi, representing Banmanki, has been appointed as Whip (Sachetak) with the rank of Minister of State, earning a spot in the state’s VVIP list.

Political Rise Amid Controversy
Krishna Kumar Rishi’s name had made national headlines in April 2025 following a bitter clash with independent MP Pappu Yadav. The dispute originated during a government operation to remove encroachments in Harmudi under the Banmanki police station area. Pappu Yadav accused the administration of demolishing houses of Mahadalits on Rishi’s instructions. In retaliation, Rishi filed a police complaint alleging death threats from Yadav and his supporters. The incident stirred political tensions in the district.

Career and Achievements
Krishna Kumar Rishi is a well-known figure in Bihar politics. He was elected as MLA from Banmanki on a BJP ticket in the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. In 2017, he was appointed Tourism Minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet.

In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Rishi contested again from Banmanki and won convincingly against Congress candidate Dev Narayan Rajak, representing the Mahagathbandhan. According to his election affidavit, Rishi holds assets worth ₹3.8 crore with liabilities of ₹31.3 lakh. A 12th pass, he has steadily built his political career and now occupies a key position in the Bihar government as a Whip with ministerial rank.

With this appointment, Krishna Kumar Rishi has not only reinforced his political stature but also emerged as a significant NDA leader in Bihar, demonstrating his ability to navigate both governance and political controversies effectively.
