Gonda, Uttar Pradesh: BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Karan Bhushan Singh, has made a major political announcement regarding the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He declared that both he and his father, former MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, will contest the elections on Bharatiya Janata Party tickets and will enter Parliament together.
Speaking to the media during a public programme in Belsar, Karan Bhushan Singh said, “In 2029, my father and I will both contest the elections from the BJP. We will win and go to Parliament together. This much is certain.”
His statement has triggered intense political discussions, as it comes amid ongoing legal and political controversies surrounding Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Brij Bhushan Has Already Announced His Intent
Earlier, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had also publicly announced his intention to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He had stated that no force in the world could stop him from contesting elections and that it would be party workers who would decide his candidature. However, he had added that details regarding the party and constituency would be disclosed six months before the elections.
With both father and son now openly stating their intent to contest, questions are being raised about which constituencies they would fight from and how both would secure BJP tickets simultaneously.
Ticket Denied in 2024 Amid Wrestlers’ Allegations
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was denied a BJP ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections following serious allegations of sexual harassment levelled by women wrestlers. In his place, the BJP fielded his younger son, Karan Bhushan Singh, from the Kaiserganj seat, who went on to win and enter Parliament for the first time.
While the POCSO case related to a minor wrestler was closed after the Delhi Police filed a closure report and the court dropped charges under the Act, other cases related to adult wrestlers are currently in their final stages. Political observers view Karan Bhushan’s statement as a strategic move to build pressure and signal a political comeback for his father.
Statement at Sports Festival Closing Ceremony
Karan Bhushan Singh made the remarks during the closing ceremony and prize distribution of the MP Sports Festival held in Gonda, attended by players, local representatives, and BJP workers.
During the same event, he also commented on the ongoing investigation into the codeine cough syrup case. He said, “There is a BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, and the investigation is being monitored by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself. Whoever is found guilty will face strict action. The bulldozer will roll, even if the accused belongs to the BJP.”
