In a significant organizational reshuffle, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Vinod Narayan Jha, senior leader and sitting MLA from Benipatti, Madhubani district, as the Chief Whip of the ruling party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The party has communicated this decision to Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar, while Rajendra Gupta has been appointed Deputy Leader in the Legislative Council.

Vinod Narayan Jha is regarded as one of the senior and influential leaders of Bihar BJP. He currently represents Benipatti in the Bihar Assembly and previously served as Cabinet Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in the Bihar government. Within the party, he has held key positions including former Vice President and Chief Spokesperson, highlighting his strong organizational influence.

From JP Movement to Legislative Leadership

Jha began his political journey during Jayaprakash Narayan’s Bihar Movement, actively participating in the struggle and spending approximately three months in jail. Over the past four decades, he has been instrumental in strengthening BJP in the Mithilanchal region. He first won the Benipatti seat in 2005, and later in 2010 and 2020, securing his current tenure as MLA.

Vinod Narayan Jha was born on 28 February 1957 in Ghonghour village, Madhubani district to Badrinarayan Jha. He is married, with his wife being a homemaker, and they have a son named Vibhay Kumar Jha.

Controversies and Assets

His name was linked to a murder case in Madhubani in 2021, though no formal charges have been highlighted in recent reports. According to his 2025 election affidavit, Jha’s total declared assets amount to ₹4.88 crore.

This appointment reinforces Jha’s central role in Bihar BJP, positioning him to manage legislative discipline and party strategy in the Assembly, especially ahead of upcoming political challenges.
