UP SIR Process: Names of 2.89 Crore Voters May Be Deleted, Here’s What You Should Do

Lucknow: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Uttar Pradesh has completed the first phase, which involved collecting and digitizing forms from voters. The draft voter list under this process is scheduled to be published on 31 December 2025. Preliminary data indicates that out of 15.44 crore registered voters in the state, as many as 2.89 crore names may be removed due to reasons such as absence, relocation, death, or duplication.

Draft Voter List and Next Steps
Once the draft voter list is published, the exact number of voters whose names may be removed will become clear. Citizens whose names have been left out can file claims or objections to get their names reinstated. Districts with the highest number of potential deletions include Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra, and Bareilly.

Missing Records
During the SIR process, the records of 1.11 crore voters could not be traced. These individuals’ names, or those of their parents or grandparents, are missing from voter lists dating back to 2003. These voters will receive notices from their Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) and will be required to submit one of 12 authorized identification documents. The Election Commission clarified that Aadhaar alone will not be sufficient; an additional proof of identity will be needed.

Claims and Objections Period
After the draft voter list is published, claims and objections can be submitted between 31 December 2025 and 30 January 2026. Notices will be sent to voters whose records could not be traced between 31 December and 21 February. The final voter list will be published on 28 February 2026.

Category-wise Potential Deletions:

  • Transferred: 1.26 crore
  • Absent: 83.73 lakh
  • Deceased: 46 lakh
  • Duplicate entries: 23.70 lakh
  • Did not submit forms: 9.57 lakh

How to Get Your Name Included
Citizens are advised to carefully check the draft voter list once published. If your name is missing and you are a resident of the constituency, you can submit Form-6 to get your name included. This also applies to individuals who received the revision form but were unable to submit it earlier. A self-declaration affidavit will be required, providing details similar to the 2003 voter records.

Additionally, young citizens turning 18 by 1 January 2026 are eligible to apply using Form-6. Online submission is available through the Election Commission’s website or voter helpline app, while verification will be conducted by the Booth Level Officer (BLO).
