Lucknow: The process of claims and objections on the draft electoral rolls published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh is currently underway. To facilitate voters, a special statewide drive is being conducted on Sunday, during which Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be present at all polling stations to address voters’ concerns and receive objections.
Under the initiative, BLOs will read out the draft voter list at polling booths and assist electors in verifying their details. Voters who find discrepancies or have doubts regarding inclusion, deletion, correction, or transfer of names can submit their objections on the spot. Adequate numbers of required forms have been made available at polling stations for public convenience.
Badaun District Magistrate and District Election Officer Avnish Rai said that, as per the Election Commission of India’s directions, the draft electoral rolls for Assembly constituencies—based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2026—were published on January 6. Claims and objections can be filed until February 6, 2026. He added that the process is being carried out strictly in accordance with the Commission’s guidelines. A special booth-level camp was also organized on Saturday as part of this exercise.
Special Campaign Dates Fixed
As per instructions from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, special campaign dates have been fixed for January 17 (Saturday), January 18 (Sunday), January 31 (Saturday), and February 1 (Sunday). On these days, BLOs will be available at polling booths from 10:45 am to 4:15 pm across all Assembly constituencies.
Similar arrangements have been made in all districts of the state. Voters can visit their designated polling stations to obtain and submit Form-6 (new voter registration), Form-7 (deletion of name), and Form-8 (correction or transfer of entries). Declaration forms will also be provided to ensure inclusion in the final electoral roll, which is scheduled to be published on March 6.
Two More Opportunities for Voters
If voters miss Sunday’s special drive, they will have two more opportunities to file objections at the booth level—on January 31 and February 1. During these special campaign days, BLOs will again read out the draft voter list and also carry the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate) list, which includes names that have been removed from the rolls.
BLOs will have sufficient stock of all forms and declaration letters. To make the campaign effective, assistance will be taken from village heads, ward members (current or former), ration dealers, and other locally influential persons.
Monitoring and Supervision
BLO supervisors will remain in the field to inspect and monitor the special drives at polling stations. Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will also actively participate in the process. All polling stations—whether located in schools, colleges, or other government buildings—will remain open on the designated dates.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa stated that district election officials, including District Election Officers, Sub-Divisional Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, have been instructed to conduct field visits and closely monitor arrangements during the special campaign days. They have also been directed to ensure daily and thorough review of the revision process.
Key Numbers from Draft Roll
Notably, the draft electoral roll published on January 6 has seen the removal of approximately 2.89 crore names across Uttar Pradesh. This includes 46.23 lakh deceased voters, 2.17 crore voters found absent or shifted, and 25.47 lakh voters registered at more than one location. Such voters have been given the opportunity to raise claims and objections during the special drives.
The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to actively participate in the process to ensure an accurate and inclusive final voter list.
