UP Minister Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’ Responds to Devkinandan Thakur’s Controversial Statement on Clothing

Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh: Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’, the Minister of AYUSH in Uttar Pradesh, has reacted to the controversial statement made by preacher Devkinandan Thakur. Thakur had recently suggested that women who wear sarees would become the prime ministers of Bangladesh and Pakistan. In response, Minister Mishra emphasized that a person’s identity is defined by their character, not by their clothes.

Speaking to the media, Mishra acknowledged that Devkinandan Thakur’s comments might be his personal views, but he clearly rejected the notion that clothing defines someone’s worth. He drew a parallel with the renowned philosopher and spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda, who faced criticism for his attire during his visit to America. Swami Vivekananda had famously responded that the true identity of a person lies in their character, not in their outward appearance.

Mishra further asserted that anyone holding a constitutional position must prove their capability through their actions, not by their choice of attire. “In this country, clothing is not a determinant of one’s identity,” he added.

Minister Responds to Other Comments
The Minister also addressed Devkinandan Thakur’s comments about building a temple on the site of a mosque at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Mishra stated that he does not involve himself in such matters as they reflect personal opinions and ideological beliefs of individuals, particularly those of religious figures.

He also reiterated that India functions under the rule of law. The country has defined norms and boundaries, and its progress is in accordance with these laws.

In a political remark, Mishra took a jibe at Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, criticizing him for his opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. “Akhilesh and his party were also involved in this process. All political parties are working together to build votes because they know that without votes, they cannot succeed,” Mishra commented. He further added that the Election Commission‘s primary goal is to maintain a clean and accurate voter list, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
