A video of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Deoria, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, has gone viral on social media, showing him sternly reprimanding a police officer over the phone. In the clip, the MLA is heard warning the officer for allegedly using disrespectful language toward a BJP Mandal President.
According to the video, Tripathi can be heard saying, “If the Mandal President is calling you, you should understand the matter. And if you speak like ‘Neta-Napadi’, then we will make you understand what ‘Neta-Napadi’ really means.” The video, reportedly recorded two days ago, has sparked widespread discussion regarding the behaviour of police officials toward party workers.
What Led to the Controversy?
The incident began when a BJP Mandal President contacted the local Kotwali Inspector, requesting him to listen to the concerns of a party worker who visited the police station. However, when the worker approached the Inspector and mentioned the Mandal President’s name, the Inspector allegedly replied, “Why do you get calls made from Neta-Napadi? What difference will it make?”
Feeling insulted, the worker returned and informed the Mandal President, who then expressed his displeasure to MLA Shalabh Mani Tripathi. After listening to the details, Tripathi immediately called the concerned officer in the presence of the worker and the Mandal President.
In the now-viral video, Tripathi can be seen speaking firmly, saying, “If the Mandal President has called, you should have gone to the spot and conducted the inquiry. Whatever the findings were, you should have reported them. Who gave you the right to call them ‘Neta-Napadi’? Tell your Inspector not to indulge in such nonsense.”
Background of the Incident
Reports suggest that the BJP worker had gone to the police station only after the Mandal President asked him to. The insensitive remark by the Inspector offended the local party leaders, leading to the escalation of the issue. The Mandal President, visibly upset in the viral video, is seen sitting next to the MLA as Tripathi confronts the officer over the phone.
The video has reignited discussions on the strained relationships between political representatives and administrative officials, with many raising questions about the conduct and accountability of police personnel.
