Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has expressed his support for the new UGC (University Grants Commission) law while emphasizing that it must be implemented fairly. Speaking to the media after attending the Parliament Budget Session 2026, Akhilesh stated that the UGC Act should ensure that guilty parties do not go unpunished, injustice is not done to anyone, and innocent individuals are not wrongly implicated.
UGC Bill and Nationwide Reactions
The new UGC legislation has sparked protests across Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. While supporting the bill, Akhilesh stressed that its execution must be transparent and just, safeguarding both students and faculty from wrongful action.
Comments on Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand
Akhilesh Yadav also criticized the BJP regarding Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand. He said that the party, which claims to uphold Sanatan Dharma, had insulted the Shankaracharya. Akhilesh mentioned that the police stopped the Shankaracharya’s chariot and prevented him from performing a ritual bath while he was in private attire, describing it as a major affront.
Remarks on Ajit Pawar Plane Crash
Further, Akhilesh raised concerns over the recent plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. He highlighted that Ajit Pawar was a widely respected leader and questioned the circumstances of the crash, stressing that such incidents should not occur for VIPs and a thorough investigation must clarify the cause.
