Three Rajya Sabha Members from Rajasthan to Complete Term in New Year; BJP, Congress Eye Seats

Jaipur, Rajasthan: As the New Year approaches, three Rajya Sabha members from Rajasthan—Ravneet Singh Bittu, Rajendra Gehlot, and Neeraj Dangi—are set to complete their terms in June 2026. Accordingly, elections for these three seats are expected in April or May 2026. Based on the strength of political parties in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, two seats are likely to go to the BJP and one to the Congress.

BJP May Retain Bittu Alongside a New Face

The terms of BJP members Ravneet Singh Bittu and Rajendra Gehlot will end in June, prompting the party to nominate two leaders for the Rajya Sabha. It is widely expected that Bittu could be re-nominated. Currently serving as Minister of State for Railways in the central government, Bittu’s ministerial position requires him to be a member of Parliament, making his re-election likely. The second BJP seat may see a new leader being nominated.

Current Composition: 5 BJP, 5 Congress

Rajasthan currently has ten Rajya Sabha members, equally divided between the BJP and Congress. Congress representatives include Neeraj Dangi, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik, Pramod Kumar, and Sonia Gandhi, while BJP members include Rajendra Gehlot, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Ghanshyam Tiwari, Chunnilal Garasiya, and Madan Rathore.

In the June 2020 elections, BJP’s Rajendra Gehlot and KC Venugopal, along with Congress’s Neeraj Dangi, were elected. Later, KC Venugopal resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha, and Ravneet Singh Bittu was elected in August 2024 to fill the vacancy. The terms of Gehlot, Dangi, and Bittu will end on June 21, 2026, setting the stage for upcoming elections.
