Suvendu Adhikari Alleges Bangladesh Funding for ‘Babri Mosque’ Project in Murshidabad, Launches Sharp Attack on Humayun Kabir

Kolkata: West Bengal Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has made serious allegations against JUP founder Humayun Kabir, claiming that a significant portion of the funding for a mosque being constructed in Murshidabad district has allegedly come from Bangladesh.

Speaking on Tuesday, Adhikari claimed that nearly 50 percent of the funding for the so-called “Babri Mosque” project, being built in Beldanga area of Murshidabad, has been arranged through Bangladeshi donors and organisations linked to groups such as Jamaat.

‘Humayun Kabir Visited Bangladesh to Arrange Funds,’ Claims Adhikari

Adhikari further alleged that Humayun Kabir travelled to Bangladesh on September 28 last year and stayed there for about a week, allegedly to mobilise funds for the mosque project.

He also claimed that Kabir was quietly assisting the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in countering anti-incumbency sentiments among minority voters, and described him as a “link between Jamaat and the TMC.”

Adhikari warned that extremist Islamic organisations were strengthening their presence on both sides of the India-Bangladesh border, calling the situation “deeply concerning” for Bengali Hindus.

Humayun Kabir Rejects Allegations, Calls Them Baseless

Responding strongly, Humayun Kabir dismissed Adhikari’s claims, stating that the BJP leader had “lost his senses” and was making irresponsible accusations.

Kabir admitted that he did visit Bangladesh during that period, but said the trip was completely personal and transparent. He stated that he returned to India on October 10 at around 5 PM via Malda, and claimed he could provide his complete travel schedule if demanded.

Kabir said it was shocking that his Bangladesh visit was being linked to mosque funding, calling the allegation “a new low in political propaganda.”

‘Demand CBI or ED Probe If You Doubt Funding,’ Says Kabir

Humayun Kabir further stated that donations for the mosque project had come openly from people across India and that the process was transparent. He challenged Adhikari to demand a CBI or Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe if he had genuine concerns about the source of funds.

Notably, Kabir had laid the foundation stone of the mosque on December 6, the same date on which the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya, making the project politically sensitive.

The allegations and counter-allegations have now intensified the political debate in West Bengal, with demands growing for an official investigation into the funding sources.
