Shocking Error in Rajasthan Voter List: 72-Year-Old Declared Dead During SIR Update

A startling incident has come to light from Gangapur City, Rajasthan, amid the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. A 72-year-old retired medical officer, Mr. Gopinath Sharma, has reportedly been declared dead in the voter list—despite being very much alive. The issue was revealed by Sharma himself during a media interaction.

Alive But Marked Dead
Gopinath Sharma, resident of Ward No. 33 in Gangapur City, said that while the SIR process was underway, he had received no official forms by 16th November. Upon contacting his Booth Level Officer (BLO) Chotu Khan, he was shocked to learn that he had been listed as deceased in the voter records. “I am standing here alive, yet the negligence has wrongly marked me as dead. This is both humiliating and reflects a serious lapse in the electoral process,” Sharma told reporters.

No Resolution Yet
Sharma has filed multiple complaints with the District Election and Registration Officer, but his name has not yet been restored to the voter list. He holds a valid EPIC number, and his name is recorded in the 2002 voter list under Part 109, Serial No. 532, having voted in all elections since. Experts say that such errors undermine trust in the SIR process.

SIR Process Faces Criticism
This incident highlights concerns raised earlier by Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, who criticized the SIR update for BLOs allegedly removing names without verifying households. The Gangapur City case exposes another serious flaw in the ongoing voter list revision exercise.
