Sanjay Raut Questions Ajit Pawar’s Death, References Ahmedabad Plane Crash; Criticizes BJP Over Legacy

Political tensions in Maharashtra intensified following the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane accident. While Sharad Pawar had earlier described the Baramati air mishap as an accident, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader Sanjay Raut raised questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, drawing parallels with the Ahmedabad plane crash.

Speaking in Mumbai on Thursday, Raut said, “Has there been any proper investigation into the Ahmedabad plane crash? The facts and truth must come before the public.” He added that the sudden demise of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister is shocking not only for the state but for the entire nation, and the people deserve answers.

Criticism of BJP

Raut also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the party of hypocrisy. Sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that while the BJP took out full-page advertisements to pay tribute to Ajit Pawar, true respect would be returning the ₹70,000 crore irrigation scam allegations against him — allegations that were later dropped after Ajit Pawar joined the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance with the BJP.

“BJP and leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis must acknowledge the truth and clear Ajit Dada’s name,” Raut said.

Final Farewell in Baramati

Ajit Pawar was given his final rites on Thursday in Baramati, with a massive gathering of mourners. Key dignitaries present included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and other senior leaders. Ajit Pawar’s sons, Parth and Jay, performed the cremation rituals, while the crowd chanted slogans such as “Dada, we salute you” and “Ajit Dada Amar Rahe”.

The political debate surrounding Ajit Pawar’s death and the role of the BJP in both his legacy and earlier allegations is expected to remain a major topic in Maharashtra’s political discourse in the coming days.
