Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Parliament from Jehanabad, Surendra Yadav, is once again in the spotlight for controversial remarks and alleged abusive behavior. Known for his fiery temperament, Yadav has a long history of political controversies, ranging from publicly abusing citizens at local events to dramatic incidents in Parliament.
Latest Controversy in Jehanabad
The latest episode occurred in the Atari constituency of Gaya district, where Surendra Yadav attended a cricket tournament in Khijarsarai block’s Saraiya area as the chief guest. While leaving the venue, he reportedly lost his temper when locals questioned him about basic amenities and development work. A video recording of the event shows Yadav verbally abusing residents, sparking outrage among the local population.
Sources suggest that Yadav’s anger may have been directed at his own political associates. The recent loss of the Atari assembly seat to Romit Kumar of the HAM party, defeating RJD’s Vaijayanti Devi, allegedly triggered his reaction. The constituency had been a stronghold of the Yadav family for over three generations, with multiple family members serving as MLAs.
Past Controversies: Women’s Reservation Bill Incident
Surendra Yadav’s most infamous political act dates back to 1998, when he forcibly snatched the Women’s Reservation Bill from then Home Minister L.K. Advani in Parliament and tore the bill in full view of the nation. The incident drew nationwide condemnation and remains one of the most cited examples of disruptive behavior in the Lok Sabha.
Political Clout and Criminal Record
Despite his controversial reputation, Surendra Yadav remains a significant figure in Bihar politics, closely aligned with Lalu Prasad Yadav and a key member of Tejashwi Yadav’s “kitchen cabinet.” He has represented the Belaganj seat in Gaya as MLA for 30 consecutive years before becoming an MP.
According to election affidavits, Yadav possesses assets worth over ₹13 crore, including gold worth ₹76 lakh, three vehicles, and land exceeding ₹7 crore. He also faces more than three dozen criminal cases, including allegations of assault dating back to 1991.
Known for his forceful rhetoric and authoritative style, Surendra Yadav continues to be a polarizing figure, blending political clout with controversy in Bihar’s volatile political landscape.
