Ritesh Pandey Quits Jan Suraj Party After Karghar Defeat, Signals Shift in Bihar Politics

Popular Bhojpuri singer and actor Ritesh Pandey has resigned from the Jan Suraj Party, led by political strategist Prashant Kishor, following a heavy defeat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections from the Karghar constituency.

Reasons for Resignation

Ritesh Pandey cited the difficulty of balancing his artistic career and active political engagement as the primary reason for his decision. Sharing the news on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he said:

“As a responsible Indian, I joined the Jan Suraj Party to participate in the democratic process. Although the results were not favorable, I have no regrets, as I have done my work sincerely. However, it is very difficult to serve the public effectively as an active member of a political party. Therefore, I am resigning from the party membership, while continuing to serve the people through my work and identity.”

Electoral Setback

Ritesh Pandey had joined Jan Suraj Party a few months prior to the elections, receiving Prashant Kishor’s backing and contesting from Karghar in Rohtas district. He faced a resounding defeat, losing to Vashishth Singh of JD(U) by a margin of 35,676 votes.

Future Plans

While Pandey’s resignation raises questions about his political future, he has indicated that he will continue public service through his personal initiatives and professional identity. Analysts suggest that following Jan Suraj Party’s disappointing electoral performance, other high-profile members may also reconsider their association with the party.

Ritesh Pandey’s exit marks a significant setback for Jan Suraj Party in Bihar, signaling potential challenges for the party ahead of future political contests.
