Republic Day Incident Sparks Outrage in Balaghat as Youths Raise Godse Slogans Holding National Flag

A disturbing incident reported from Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh has triggered widespread outrage after a group of youths allegedly raised slogans in support of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, on Republic Day.

The incident occurred on January 26 in Bagholi village of Lalbarra block, where several youths were seen moving around in a vehicle while holding the national flag and allegedly shouting slogans glorifying Godse. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing sharp political reactions and public condemnation.

Congress Condemns the Act

The Congress party has strongly objected to the incident, terming it an insult to the Father of the Nation and a direct attack on constitutional values.

According to party leaders, the slogans were raised near the Bagholi village gate, where youths allegedly shouted phrases such as “Godse Amar Rahe” while displaying the Tricolour — an act described by the Congress as deeply offensive and unacceptable, especially on a national occasion like Republic Day.

Complaint Submitted to Police

Following the incident, a joint meeting of the Block Congress Committee and Madhya Pradesh Kisan Congress, Lalbarra, was held on Wednesday. After the meeting, Congress workers submitted a formal written complaint at Lalbarra police station, demanding immediate legal action against those involved.

The complaint includes details of the viral video and seeks registration of a case under relevant sections of law for disturbing communal harmony and insulting national icons.

Leaders Call It an Attack on National Values

Block Congress Committee President Maniram Bhoyer stated that the party came to know about the incident through the viral video.

“Raising slogans in support of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin on Republic Day is not only shameful but an insult to the Constitution and the values on which this nation stands,” he said, adding that such actions should not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He further warned that incidents of this nature could disturb peace and social harmony in the region if not dealt with firmly.

Demand for Strict Action

The Congress has urged the district administration and police authorities to identify the individuals involved and take strict legal action, emphasizing that no one should be allowed to misuse the national flag or glorify violence against national leaders.

Police officials have stated that the viral video is being examined and appropriate action will be taken after verification.

The incident has reignited debate over the misuse of national symbols and the need for stronger enforcement to protect the dignity of national icons, especially on occasions of national importance.
