Rajasthan: Why Did Kirori Lal Meena Skip Anta By-Election Campaign? Hidden Political Message Behind His Silence

Jaipur: As the campaign for the Anta Assembly by-election in Rajasthan concluded, a new political storm has erupted over the absence of Cabinet Minister Kirori Lal Meena from the BJP’s campaign efforts. Kirori, a prominent leader of the Meena community, has finally broken his silence, hinting at internal party dynamics and raising fresh political speculation ahead of the crucial poll.

Speaking to a TV channel, Meena gave a carefully worded statement:

“Why I didn’t go there, whether I was invited or not — these are things I don’t want to comment on. Every leader has their own role and responsibility.”

His remarks have fueled discussions across Rajasthan’s political circles, with analysts debating whether his non-participation was a result of internal BJP strategy or a sign of dissatisfaction within the party ranks.

“Some Leaves Fall from the Branch…”

When asked about independent candidate Naresh Meena, Kirori replied cryptically,

“Some leaves fall off the branch — what can we do about it?”

The statement was seen as a subtle acknowledgment that Naresh Meena, once close to him, has now distanced himself politically.

Why Kirori’s Absence Matters

The Anta Assembly seat holds deep social and political significance for the Meena community, which forms a strong voter base in the region. With over 2.27 lakh total voters, about 40,000–45,000 belong to the Mali community, and 30,000–35,000 are Meena voters.

Observers believe that if Kirori Lal Meena, considered one of the most influential Meena leaders in Rajasthan, had actively campaigned, the BJP could have consolidated the Meena vote. His absence, however, may benefit Naresh Meena, the independent candidate.

Internal Politics or Strategic Move?

Kirori’s name was included in the BJP’s official list of 40 star campaigners, but his decision to stay away from the Anta campaign has raised eyebrows. Some insiders suggest that his silence signals internal differences, while others believe it might be a deliberate strategic decision by the BJP to balance caste equations quietly.

As Rajasthan awaits results, one question lingers in political circles:
