Kota: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Rajasthan government has decided that students and teachers in government schools will wear traditional local attire once a week, excluding jewelry. The move aims to promote cultural awareness and preserve local heritage among the younger generation.
Education Minister Supports Government of India Proposal
Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar confirmed that the state has accepted a proposal from the Government of India’s Department of School Education and Literacy to encourage cultural consciousness in schools. Under the initiative, all students and staff in government and private schools are encouraged to wear local traditional clothing one day each week.
Promoting Handloom and Local Culture
The proposal highlights the importance of fostering a deep connection with India’s textile heritage. The government has recommended that handloom garments be regularly incorporated into school uniforms and university dress codes as part of promoting cultural values. Education Minister Dilawar welcomed this suggestion and instructed the state education department to implement the initiative across all schools in Rajasthan.
This step is expected to not only enhance students’ understanding of local culture but also support the preservation and promotion of India’s rich handloom traditions.
