Rajasthan Gets Record Railway Allocation; PM Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Jaisalmer Station Soon

Jaipur, Rajasthan: Rajasthan has received a historic allocation of ₹10,228 crore in the 2026-27 Railway Budget, marking a significant boost for the state’s rail infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the redeveloped Jaisalmer Railway Station in the coming weeks.

Record Allocation and Ongoing Projects

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the allocation for Rajasthan this year is nearly 15 times higher than what the state received during the Congress regime. Currently, multiple railway projects are underway in Rajasthan, with an estimated combined cost of ₹56,000 crore.

Rail Electrification Near Completion

Vaishnaw highlighted that railway electrification across Rajasthan is in its final stages, with only a few tracks pending completion. “As electrification is completed, we will introduce new rail projects and additional train services,” he said. In recent years, several popular new trains have been launched, significantly improving connectivity for passengers across the state.

New Train Services and Vande Bharat

The Minister noted that Vande Bharat Express services have already commenced from Jodhpur and Bikaner. Additionally, the Swarn Nagri Express has started operations from Jaisalmer, and train services from Jodhpur and Pali to major cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune are now available. Further expansion of railway services from Rajasthan is planned in the near future.

Jaisalmer Station Redevelopment in Final Stage

Amitabh, General Manager of North Western Railway, said redevelopment work at several railway stations is progressing rapidly. While five stations have already been inaugurated, ten more are scheduled to open in the coming months. He confirmed that the Jaisalmer station redevelopment will be completed within a month and inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.

Progress at Jaipur and Gandhinagar Stations

The General Manager added that the second entryway at Jaipur Railway Station is nearly complete and will soon be opened for passengers. The concourse construction at Gandhinagar Railway Station is also in its final stages, with the remaining work expected to be finished in the next two months, after which the station will be inaugurated.
