Baran, Rajasthan: In the Anta Assembly by-election 2025, Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya has once again emerged victorious, retaining his stronghold in Baran district. The contest was closely fought from the start, featuring a triangular battle between BJP’s Morpall Suman, Congress’s Pramod Jain Bhaya, and independent candidate Naresh Meena.
Sankli Village Makes Headlines
One particular village, Sankli, captured widespread attention during this by-election. Despite having 763 registered voters, only a single person cast their vote throughout the entire day. The polling station in Sankli remained deserted, with election officers and staff waiting patiently from morning until the end of voting. The lone vote was the only one recorded in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at the end of the day.
Reason Behind the Boycott
Villagers cited the poor condition of local roads as the reason for their boycott. All five roads connecting Sankli become waterlogged and impassable during the monsoon, leaving the village cut off for weeks at a time. Despite repeated appeals to the administration, no action was taken, prompting the residents to protest by abstaining from voting.
Impact on the Election
The majority of voters in Sankli belong to the SC and ST communities. With more than 700 registered voters and only one vote cast, the situation highlights the significant influence of voter apathy and local issues on election outcomes. The stark contrast in participation has sparked discussion across political circles and media platforms.
