Jamshedpur, Jharkhand:
A serious case of post-election violence has surfaced in Ghatsila following the recent by-election. After Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Somesh Soren secured a decisive victory, defeating BJP’s Babulal Soren by over 38,000 votes, tensions escalated.
The unrest reportedly culminated in a brutal attack on Tarapad Mahto, husband of Ullda Panchayat’s Deputy Mukhiya, Asha Rani Mahto. The assault took place during a wedding ceremony on Tuesday night, where Tarapad was allegedly beaten mercilessly with fists and kicks, leaving him seriously injured. He was initially admitted to Ghatsila Sub-Divisional Hospital, but his condition worsened after returning home, leading to further treatment at Niramay Health Care, Galudih.
Allegations of Working for JLMK with BJP Funds
Reports suggest that Tarapad Mahto had allegedly collaborated with the JLMK during the Ghatsila by-election after receiving funds from the BJP. This purported political rivalry is believed to have motivated the violent attack.
FIR Filed and Accused Named
Former JLMK candidate Ramdas Murmu, along with supporters and Tarapad Mahto, approached Galudih police station on Wednesday. Based on Tarapad’s statement, a named FIR was registered. The complaint includes BJP district secretary Haradhan Singh and several others as accused, including Chandangiri, Rajesh Karmakar, Deepak Rai alias Chuna, Hiralal Mahto, and an unidentified male. Police have initiated further investigations.
This incident has highlighted the heightened political tensions in the region post-election, with authorities now closely monitoring developments.
