Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The web series ‘Ghuskhor Pandit’ has sparked a political and social controversy in Uttar Pradesh. The issue, initially focused on the provocative title of the series, has now drawn reactions from top political leaders. Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a case has been registered at the Hazratganj police station against the series’ director and team for allegedly hurting religious and caste sentiments.
Mayawati Speaks Out
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati criticized the web series for disrespecting the Brahmin community. In a social media post, she said that it is deeply disturbing that, not only in Uttar Pradesh but across India, movies and shows have started portraying Brahmins as intruders or outsiders, causing widespread anger and resentment within the community.
Mayawati demanded that the Central Government impose an immediate ban on such caste-targeted content, calling it a matter of national concern. She emphasized that the BSP strongly condemns the series and called for decisive action to prevent further insult to any community.
Why the Controversy Intensified
The dispute over the web series’ title has gained political traction ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Reports suggest that the discontent among Brahmin voters has been increasingly highlighted by opposition parties, including both the Samajwadi Party and the BSP.
Historically, the Brahmin vote bank has shown significant influence in state elections, including support for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Mayawati’s intervention appears aimed at politically mobilizing the Brahmin community ahead of upcoming elections. In 2007, her coalition of Dalits, backward communities, Muslims, and Brahmins helped her form a majority government in Uttar Pradesh. Now, she seems to be revisiting a similar strategy.
Official Action in Lucknow
The Hazratganj police have registered a case against the web series team under charges of disturbing social harmony and hurting religious and caste sentiments. The Lucknow police commissionerate stated that under the city’s zero-tolerance policy, strict action will be taken against anyone found attempting to provoke communal tensions or disrupt public peace. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed support for decisive measures against such content.
The controversy over ‘Ghuskhor Pandit’ continues to escalate, blending social sensitivity with political maneuvering as leaders and communities react to the provocative portrayal.
