Political Storm Over Codeine Cough Syrup Controversy: Akhilesh Yadav Targets CM Yogi Through Poetry

Lucknow: Politics in Uttar Pradesh has intensified over the alleged smuggling of codeine cough syrup. Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s accusations linking the Samajwadi Party (SP) to mafia networks involved in the case, SP chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav has responded sharply—using poetry on the social media platform X. His post is widely seen as a pointed political counter to CM Yogi’s claims.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Response

Without directly naming the CM, Akhilesh Yadav posted a couplet:
“When you yourself are trapped, you blame others; This is an old game, rulers, tell us something new.”

Through this poetic expression, Yadav signaled that accusing the opposition has become a routine political tactic, while the government avoids accountability. The post quickly went viral, sparking debate among both supporters and rival political leaders.

CM Yogi’s Sharp Attack

Earlier, ahead of the winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, CM Yogi had launched a scathing attack on the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party. Speaking to the media, he highlighted that the state government has taken strict action under the NDPS Act, with extensive arrests conducted by the police and Special Task Force (STF).

The CM alleged that the illegal codeine cough syrup trade and associated mafia networks have links with the SP. He emphasized that connections between active mafia groups and the SP have been repeatedly exposed in the past.

Claims of Close Ties to SP Leadership

Yogi further claimed that some arrested individuals have revealed ties to the Samajwadi Party, suggesting that further investigations could link them to SP leadership. While not naming Akhilesh Yadav directly, he indicated that the accused had connections close to the SP chief, and financial transactions related to the network have emerged in the investigation. He asserted that the full investigation would eventually clarify the truth.

Political Battle Escalates

Akhilesh Yadav’s poetic retort underscores that the codeine cough syrup case has now become a major political issue in Uttar Pradesh. With the winter session underway, tensions between the ruling party and the opposition are expected to intensify both inside and outside the Assembly.
