On the sensitive anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, a fresh political storm has erupted in West Bengal. Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone of a “New Babri Masjid” in Beldanga, Murshidabad on Saturday, triggering sharp reactions from political circles across states.
Maurya’s Strong Warning: “BJP Will Uproot Any Brick Named After Babur”
Reacting strongly to the development, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya termed the event a “TMC drama” and asserted that the BJP is poised to form the next government in Bengal.
Maurya said,
“If even a single brick is laid in the name of Babur, the BJP will uproot it. This is nothing but TMC’s theatrics.”
Meanwhile, on the 6th of December—observed as the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition—security was heightened across Ayodhya, Mathura, and several districts in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress MP Counters: “Why Turn a Mosque into a Spectacle?”
Congress MP from Saharanpur, Imran Masood, criticized both sides, calling the situation politically motivated.
He said,
“If you want to build a mosque, build it—why sensationalize it? A mosque is meant for worship, not politics. BJP and its leaders spread hatred against Muslims, and now you are doing the same.”
Humayun Kabir Defends His Move
Humayun Kabir, suspended TMC MLA, stated that he had fulfilled his 2024 promise to inaugurate a Babri Masjid in Beldanga, a Muslim-majority area near the Bangladesh border.
He said that choosing 6 December was deliberate, intended to mark the date when the original Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992.
Owaisi Reminds of 1992 Demolition
AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi also reacted, saying:
“We all know what happened on 6 December 1992. The Babri Masjid was demolished in the presence of police. Thousands participated in its destruction, yet the court said no one can be held guilty.”
Tensions Rise, Debate Intensifies
The laying of the new Babri Masjid’s foundation has sparked widespread debate on communal politics, symbolism, and timing. With tempers rising on both sides, the incident has intensified the political heat in Bengal and beyond, especially with BJP claiming imminent political gains in the state.
