Political Leaders Extend Christmas Greetings, Call for Love, Peace and Unity

New Delhi:
Leaders across political parties on Wednesday extended warm Christmas greetings to the people of India, highlighting the festival’s message of love, compassion, peace and harmony. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi led the wishes, expressing hope that the holy festival would bring happiness, joy and prosperity to everyone’s lives.

In a video message shared on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said, “May this sacred festival bring happiness, joy and prosperity into your life. May your life be filled with love, compassion and togetherness. Merry Christmas to all.” His message emphasized the inclusive and humane spirit associated with the festival.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also conveyed his greetings, stating that Christmas inspires people to uphold timeless values such as love, mercy, forgiveness, peace and unity. “On the joyous occasion of Christmas, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens. This holy festival, symbolising the birth of Jesus Christ, strengthens our collective resolve to build a more humane and harmonious society,” Kharge wrote, adding that the occasion should usher in renewed hope, happiness and prosperity for all.

The Indian National Congress, in a separate post, wished citizens peace, good health and lasting happiness. “May this festive season bring harmony to every home and lead us together towards a brighter and more compassionate future,” the party said.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati also extended her wishes, particularly to the Christian community. In her message, she said, “Heartfelt greetings and best wishes on the festival of Christmas to people living in India and across the world, especially to members of the Christian community.” She stressed that the festival’s message of mutual love and compassion should reinforce values of peace, harmony, equality and service in society.

Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav marked the occasion by sharing a festive poster on X. The image depicted Santa Claus riding a bicycle—the party’s election symbol. Along with the poster, Yadav wrote, “May the gifts of ‘love, kindness and togetherness’ reach every home and courtyard.”

Christmas, celebrated annually on December 25 to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, holds deep religious significance for Christians worldwide. Over the years, it has also evolved into a broader cultural celebration that transcends religious boundaries, symbolising hope, forgiveness, peace and universal brotherhood.

The messages from political leaders reflected a shared sentiment of unity and goodwill, reinforcing the festival’s spirit of harmony in India’s diverse social fabric.
