Political Controversy Erupts After Ajit Pawar’s Death; Fadnavis Slams Mamata Banerjee Following Sharad Pawar’s Statement

Mumbai: The sudden death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a Baramati plane crash has sent shockwaves across the state. Amidst the grief, political tensions have emerged following remarks by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who called for a probe into the incident, hinting at possible foul play.

Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s uncle and senior NCP leader, strongly rejected these claims, urging political leaders not to exploit the tragedy. Speaking to the media hours after the accident, Sharad Pawar said, “I did not intend to come on media, but I learned that some outlets in Kolkata are suggesting political motives behind this accident. Let me make it clear—this is a tragic accident, nothing else. Maharashtra, we are all deeply saddened by this loss. Please do not bring politics into it.”

Following Sharad Pawar’s statement, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticized Mamata Banerjee, calling her remarks “unfortunate” and “a descent into low-level politics.” He stated, “Ajit Pawar’s death is a huge loss for Maharashtra. He was a capable leader with the courage to make important decisions. Any damage caused by his absence cannot be undone, but politics should not be brought into a personal tragedy. Senior leader Sharad Pawar has made it very clear that this was an accident. It is extremely sad that even in death, politics is being dragged into such a horrible incident. Mamata Di did not need to make such a statement. It is completely wrong to politicize the death of a beloved leader.”

Earlier, Mamata Banerjee expressed her shock over the sudden demise of Ajit Pawar and those traveling with him in the Baramati plane crash. She offered condolences to his family, including Sharad Pawar, and called for an investigation under the Supreme Court’s supervision, citing distrust in existing agencies.
