PM Modi May Visit Jordan and Oman This Month: India’s Big Push in West Asia

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Oman and Jordan later this month as part of India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with West Asian countries. The visits come amid a series of high-level initiatives aimed at expanding India’s direct engagement with Arab nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

India has been actively working to enhance diplomatic and economic relations with West Asian countries. During PM Modi’s visits, several strategic discussions are likely to take place, including the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Oman, which has been under negotiation for several months. Sources indicate that the CEPA could be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit, marking a significant milestone in India-Oman relations.

High-Level Engagements Ahead of Mega Meeting

The Prime Minister’s visits are part of India’s preparation for a major meeting of Arab foreign ministers scheduled in January in India. The meeting, organized under the India-Arab League cooperation framework, aims to strengthen regional partnerships and enhance mutual collaboration.

Interestingly, the meeting may also see participation from Syria’s Foreign Minister Assad Al-Shaibani, signaling India’s efforts to maintain and enhance relations even after political transitions in Syria. Earlier this year, a senior Indian foreign ministry official met with Al-Shaibani in Damascus, and India also extended humanitarian assistance to Syria, reflecting its proactive engagement in the region.

Significance of the Visits

These high-level trips to Oman and Jordan will not only reinforce India’s diplomatic outreach but also set the stage for the upcoming Arab League meeting in January. With CEPA likely to be finalized with Oman, PM Modi’s visits represent a strategic push to boost trade, investment, and political cooperation across West Asia.

India’s proactive diplomacy underscores its intent to build stronger ties with Arab nations, ensuring regional stability, economic collaboration, and sustained engagement on mutual interests.
