BJP to Elect New National President
According to sources, the BJP will formally elect its new National President on 20 January 2026, succeeding J.P. Nadda. Nitin Nabin, who currently serves as the party’s Executive National President, will file his nomination on 19 January. With no other candidate expected to contest, his unopposed election is all but certain.
PM Modi to Propose Nitin Nabin
NBT Online had earlier reported that the party would have its new president by 20 January, following Makar Sankranti. Sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be the first proposer for Nitin Nabin’s nomination, highlighting the strong support from the party leadership.
Election Announcement and Ceremony
The formal announcement of Nitin Nabin’s election as BJP National President is likely to be made on 19 January. Senior party leaders, central ministers, BJP-ruled state chief ministers, state unit presidents, and members of the National Executive are expected to be present at the party headquarters for the occasion. Preparations are also underway to produce multiple sets of nomination papers with signatures from proposers and supporters.
Youngest Leader to Lead BJP
At 46 years old, Nitin Nabin will become the youngest president in BJP history, succeeding J.P. Nadda, the longest-serving National President. The party’s election committee, led by coordinator Laxman, met in Delhi to finalize the election process, with co-coordinators Sambit Patra and Naresh Bansal also present. The full election framework is expected to be announced by the end of this week.
Organizational Challenges Ahead
Rising through the ranks of the BJP Youth Wing, Nitin Nabin now faces the challenge of strengthening and restructuring the party organization, with many young party workers eager to play significant roles. His leadership is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic shifts within the party.
Political Challenges: Assembly Elections
Alongside organizational duties, Nitin Nabin will also navigate several political challenges, including upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. In states where the BJP has historically struggled or lost power, steering the party to electoral success will be a major test for the new National President.
This marks a new era for the BJP, with a youthful leadership poised to shape the party’s strategy ahead of crucial state and national elections.
