
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Ethiopia’s highest civilian honour, the “Great Honor of Ethiopia”, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to strengthening India-Ethiopia ties and his visionary global leadership. The award ceremony was held at the Addis Ababa International Conference Centre, where Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed personally presented the prestigious award.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi described receiving this accolade from one of the world’s oldest civilizations as a matter of great honour. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and the people of Ethiopia, accepting the award with humility.
He praised Dr. Abiy’s leadership and initiatives that have promoted national unity, stability, and inclusive development. Highlighting the importance of knowledge in nation-building, PM Modi acknowledged the longstanding contribution of Indian educators to Ethiopia’s progress over the past century.
In a gesture of solidarity, PM Modi dedicated the award to all Indians and Ethiopians who have nurtured bilateral relations over centuries. He conveyed his gratitude on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, emphasising that the recognition represents a milestone in the India-Ethiopia partnership and reinforces a positive agenda for the Global South.
The award further cements PM Modi’s stature on the global stage and highlights the growing strategic, cultural, and economic collaboration between India and Ethiopia.
