Guwahati, Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several major projects during his visit to Assam, while also addressing a BJP rally, emphasizing the state’s rapid development under the NDA government and contrasting it with the Congress era.
During his trip to Dibrugarh, PM Modi unveiled the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran bypass, witnessing Air Force aircraft take off and land on the highway. Praising the facility, he told the crowd, “Today, I landed on Assam’s highway—not a runway—and made history. There was a time when roads were broken and unsafe, but that is the past.”
Development Milestones in Assam
After Dibrugarh, PM Modi reached Guwahati, where he inaugurated IIM Guwahati and launched projects worth over ₹5,450 crore for the state. He also inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu over the Brahmaputra, a 6-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati. The bridge reduces travel time between Hati and North Guwahati to just 7 minutes. Additionally, he dedicated 225 e-buses under the PM-eBus initiative and announced a National Data Center for the Northeast.
Assam Receives Record Funds
PM Modi highlighted the state’s enhanced financial share under the BJP government, noting that Assam will receive nearly ₹50,000 crore this year, compared to just ₹10,000 crore under the Congress. He described the Northeast as India’s “Ashtalakshmi” and emphasized that the NDA government is serving the region with dedication and vision.
Political Message
At the BJP rally, PM Modi attributed the party’s growth to the hard work of booth-level workers and took a subtle dig at Congress for neglecting the Northeast historically. He hailed the highway landing as a symbol of Assam’s transformation and modernization. “There was a time when roads were unsafe and travel uncertain. That time is gone. Now, highways are so advanced that even aircraft can land safely,” he said.
The event drew large crowds eager to witness the Air Force’s Su-30MKI jets take off and land on the Moran bypass, showcasing Assam as a model of infrastructure development in the Northeast.
