
Patna: The redevelopment of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Bihar’s largest government hospital, is moving rapidly, with state-of-the-art facilities being added across the campus. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently inspected the ambitious project and issued key directives to expedite the work.
Air Ambulance Facility on the Rooftop
A major highlight of the project is the helipad being constructed on the roof of the new Emergency Unit, enabling direct landing of air ambulances. During his inspection, CM Nitish Kumar instructed officials to raise the walls around the helipad to ensure complete safety during operations.
Focus on Quality and Emergency Services
The Chief Minister thoroughly reviewed construction quality, medical facilities, and safety standards. He emphasized timely completion without compromising quality. He also assessed emergency facilities, including modular operating theatres, ICU setups, consultation rooms, oxygen pipelines, and maternity services.
Redevelopment Progress So Far
The project, launched in February 2021, has made significant strides:
- February 2024: Combined Ultrasound and Biochemical Screening Unit, MLCP, Nurses & Girls Hostel inaugurated; State Blood Bank operational.
- May 2024: Basement parking for 120 vehicles in Tower-1 and Tower-2 opened.
Modern Facilities Across the New PMCH Building
- 1st Floor: CT scan, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray, ENT OPD.
- 2nd & 4th Floors: Pharmacy and Dermatology Inpatient Departments (IPD).
- 3rd Floor: Departments including PSM, Cardiology, Dentistry, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, and PMR OPD.
Final Phase of Construction
- 5th Floor: Obstetrics & Gynecology IPD, Labour OT, Labour Room, NICU.
- 6th Floor: Fully equipped ICU and 22 modular OTs.
- 9th Floor: Deluxe and suite rooms for patients.
- 10th Floor: Rooftop helipad nearing completion for air ambulance operations.
The inspection was attended by Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, senior officials Deepak Kumar, Lokesh Kumar Singh, and other top administrators. CM Nitish Kumar’s hands-on approach is expected to accelerate the project, making PMCH a model high-tech hospital in Bihar.
