Parliament Winter Session LIVE: Opposition Uproar in Lok Sabha, Shivraj Singh Chauhan Responds on ‘G-Ram-G Bill’

The Winter Session of Parliament is underway and will continue until 19 December 2025. Ahead of the session’s conclusion, the government is pushing to pass several key bills. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has allocated four hours for a special discussion on the rising pollution in Delhi-NCR.

Opposition Protests During ‘G-Ram-G Bill’ Debate
Today in Lok Sabha, discussions on the ‘Developed India – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural)’ Bill—commonly referred to as the ‘G-Ram-G Bill’—witnessed intense opposition protests. Congress and other opposition members disrupted proceedings, even tearing up copies of the bill and throwing paper pieces across the House. Despite the uproar, Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan continued his speech, responding firmly to the opposition’s objections.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan Strikes Back
Chauhan strongly attacked Congress MPs while defending the bill. Addressing the House, he stated that opposition attempts to block debate amounted to a denial of his right to speak, describing it as a form of violence contrary to Mahatma Gandhi’s principles.

Key Reactions on the Bill
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal emphasized the benefits of the bill, noting that employment has increased from 100 to 125 days, linking it directly to both the employment and livelihood mission.

Congress MP KC Venugopal demanded that the bill be referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, a request rejected by the Speaker after eight hours of debate.

Protests and Demonstrations
In response to the renaming of MGNREGA and the introduction of the new ‘G-Ram-G Bill,’ India Alliance MPs staged demonstrations from the Gandhi statue to Makar Dwar, joined by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

Pollution Debate Scheduled
In addition to legislative business, the Lok Sabha is expected to have a heated discussion on Delhi-NCR’s pollution crisis. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad is slated to raise the issue during today’s session. The Speaker has allotted four hours for this special debate, underscoring the government’s recognition of the problem.

Other Parliamentary Updates

  • Parliament’s proceedings have begun in both Houses with the Question Hour in progress.
  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the approval of a four-lane road construction from Khagaria to Purnia at a cost of ₹4,000 crore, with Cabinet approval expected soon.
  • Union Minister Giriraj Singh defended Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s action regarding a Muslim woman and the hijab incident, emphasizing rule of law in India.

As the Winter Session continues until 19 December, the government is focused on passing remaining crucial legislation, with pollution and rural development remaining high on the agenda.
