Patna, February 7, 2026: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has condemned the arrest of Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, calling it an act of political revenge. He stated that Pappu Yadav was being intimidated and threatened for raising his voice for justice in the case of a NEET aspirant’s suspicious death in Bihar.
The Patna police recently arrested the independent MP in connection with a 32-year-old case from 1995. The move has sparked strong criticism from the Congress leadership.
Political Retaliation, Not Justice
Rahul Gandhi alleged that instead of providing justice to the victim’s family, the BJP-led central and Bihar governments are deliberately derailing the case and harassing the bereaved family. He accused the authorities of following the BJP-NDA model of suppressing accountability, highlighting how the system shields perpetrators while punishing those who demand justice.
On X (formerly Twitter), Rahul Gandhi wrote:
“The suspicious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna and the subsequent handling of the case have once again exposed the deep rot in the system. When the victim’s family sought a fair investigation and justice, the same old BJP-NDA model emerged – derail the case, harass the family, and protect the culprits. MP Pappu Yadav stood firmly as a voice for justice for this daughter. His arrest today is clearly an act of political vendetta, aimed at intimidating every voice that seeks accountability. Alarmingly, this is not an isolated incident; it points to a dangerous pattern where more daughters are falling victim, while the powers that be turn a blind eye. This is not politics—it is a matter of justice, dignity, and safety for the daughters of Bihar.”
Pappu Yadav’s arrest has intensified the political debate in Bihar, with opposition leaders calling for immediate transparency and accountability in both the NEET aspirant’s death and the handling of long-pending cases against public representatives.
