Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated the second phase of his ‘Samriddhi Yatra’ from Madhubani, underlining his political strategy and consolidating the Janata Dal (United)’s stronghold in Mithilanchal. The district, which saw the NDA winning 9 out of 10 assembly seats in the 2025 elections, demonstrates the party’s robust political performance, with JD(U) matching BJP in strike rate across key constituencies.
Political Performance in Madhubani
In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA secured a near-sweep in Madhubani, winning 9 of 10 seats. JD(U) won four seats, BJP also won four, while RLM and RJD claimed one seat each. Notable wins for JD(U) included Phulparash, Harlakhi, and Babubarhi, while BJP secured Laukaha, Khajauli, and Rajnagar. RLM won Madhubani Assembly, and RJD’s Asif Ahmed triumphed over BJP’s Haribhushan Thakur in Bisfi.
Comparatively, in 2020, JD(U) managed wins in Harlakhi, Babubarhi, and Phulparash, while BJP dominated other constituencies. In 2015, JD(U) had only three victories in the district, highlighting a steady political resurgence over the last decade.
Samriddhi Yatra and Development Initiatives
During the previous Pragati Yatra, Nitish Kumar had focused extensively on Madhubani, leading to a significant public response in the 2025 elections, where the NDA won four key seats. The CM had announced development projects worth ₹1,107 crore, inaugurating 139 schemes in the district.
Now, under the second phase of Samriddhi Yatra, Madhubani is set to receive projects valued at ₹391 crore. On the first day, the CM will lay the foundation for 101 new schemes worth ₹298 crore and inaugurate 294 completed projects totaling ₹93 crore, while also engaging with locals to collect feedback on government initiatives.
Mithilanchal as a Political and Development Focus
By beginning the second phase from Madhubani, Nitish Kumar emphasizes both political consolidation and development outreach in Mithilanchal. The move signals his continuing commitment to the region and strengthens JD(U)’s positioning ahead of future electoral contests.
