Patna, January 24
Speculation about the political entry of Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has gained momentum once again. The buzz intensified during the Saraswati Puja organized by the JD(U) IT cell in Patna, where both father and son were present, though at different times. Nishant arrived earlier, followed later by CM Nitish Kumar. Their brief meeting sparked fresh discussions in political circles about whether Nishant is poised to enter active politics soon.
Adding fuel to the speculation, senior JD(U) leader and Union Minister Lalan Singh publicly suggested that Nishant should now enter politics. Nitish Kumar, reportedly smiling at the remark, remained non-committal, but the conversation reinforced the growing narrative that Nishant’s political debut may be imminent.
Party Posters Amplify the Buzz
Just days before the event, posters appeared across Patna appealing for Nishant Kumar to join active politics. Released by JD(U) student wing vice-president Krishna Patel, the posters carried messages such as:
“If not now, then when? The party needs young leadership like Niku. Mission Developed Bihar 2035—Nitish’s servant, Bihar demands Nishant. When will brother Nishant take command of Bihar’s next generation?”
These posters, featuring photos of both Nitish Kumar and Nishant Kumar, quickly went viral and reinforced the idea that party workers are eager to see him take on a leadership role.
Support from JD(U) Leaders
Several party leaders have publicly expressed support for Nishant’s entry. During a Makar Sankranti celebration, JD(U) MLA Shyam Rajak praised Nishant as a “well-educated and energetic youth” whose participation in politics would benefit both the party and Bihar. Earlier, JD(U) minister Jama Khan also expressed his desire to see Nishant join the party, stating that his early political involvement would strengthen JD(U).
In the run-up to Bihar elections, Nishant Kumar was seen actively participating in several public programs, while deliberately keeping a low profile in the media. He has occasionally addressed issues like Bihar’s development model and his father’s governance approach, signaling his growing political engagement.
Decision Lies With Nitish Kumar
Political analysts suggest that the final decision regarding Nishant Kumar’s formal entry into politics rests with Nitish Kumar himself. Senior journalist Trilokinath Dubey from Gopalganj notes:
“Nitish Kumar has a history of opposing dynastic politics. It is unlikely he will allow Nishant to formally enter politics while he is still in power. The ultimate decision rests with him.”
For now, speculation continues to grow, as party posters, leader endorsements, and subtle gestures like Nitish Kumar’s smile at Saraswati Puja hint at a potential new chapter in Bihar politics—one that could see the rise of ‘Nishant’ in the state’s political landscape.
