Amravati, January 17, 2026: While the nation celebrates BJP’s sweeping victory in Mumbai, it is Navneet Rana—who left her husband’s party in 2024 to join BJP—who has made headlines in Amravati. Despite losing the 2024 Lok Sabha election herself, she successfully turned the tide for BJP in the Amravati Municipal Corporation elections and elevated her husband Ravi Rana to the position of ‘kingmaker’.
In the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency, Congress candidate Balwant Wankhede had defeated Navneet Rana. Yet, with her characteristic bold style, Navneet took charge of BJP’s campaign in the city. Her efforts paid off handsomely, with BJP emerging as the single largest party, winning 25 of the 87 seats. Ravi Rana’s party, meanwhile, secured 10 seats, cementing his influence in local politics.
Election Highlights – Amravati Municipal Corporation (87 Seats)
- BJP: 25 seats
- NCP (Ajit faction): 11 seats
- AIMIM: 15 seats
- Congress: 15 seats
- RSYP: 10 seats
- Shiv Sena: 3 seats
- Shiv Sena (UBT): 2 seats
- BSP: 3 seats
- Others: 3 seats
The victory was not without surprises. Devendra Fadnavis’ uncle, Vivek Kaloti, contested from Ward 14 but was narrowly defeated by Congress candidate Sanjay Shirbhate by around 800 votes. Nevertheless, political analysts are praising Navneet Rana’s campaign strategy for delivering BJP’s strong performance in the city and positioning Ravi Rana as a decisive political force.
From Actress to Political Powerhouse
Before entering politics, Navneet Rana was active in Punjabi and South Indian films. The daughter of an army officer, she enjoys a massive following, making her one of BJP’s star campaigners in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where she campaigned extensively from Gujarat to Hyderabad. A model, actress, and politician, Navneet married Ravi Rana on February 2, 2011, in a mass wedding attended by prominent figures such as then Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan, yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Sahara chief Subrata Roy, and actor Vivek Oberoi. Now, with BJP’s victory in Amravati, she has successfully avenged her Lok Sabha defeat and strengthened both her and her husband’s political clout.
