New Delhi, February 21, 2026: Following the controversial “shirtless” protest by Youth Congress activists at the India AI Impact Summit, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged nationwide demonstrations condemning the act.
In Mumbai, BJP workers showed black flags to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as he appeared in court over a defamation case. Several BJP leaders demanded an apology from the Congress party for the incident.
BJP’s Nationwide Response
During the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, BJP leaders and workers protested across the country in response to the Youth Congress demonstration. In Mumbai, BJP activists shouted slogans like “Haaye Haaye” and displayed black flags to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Protests were also reported in Jaipur, Jammu, and Surat.
The BJP’s youth wing further staged a demonstration outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. According to news agency ANI, a youth wing member said, “The Indian Youth Congress carried out a highly shameful act yesterday. Rahul Gandhi’s actions during the AI Summit are anti-India and send a wrong message to the world. The Congress party must apologize to the nation.”
Kiren Rejiju Calls Protest a “Planned Conspiracy”
Union Minister Kiren Rejiju sharply criticized Congress, calling the protest at the India AI Impact Summit a “deliberate act against the nation.” Rejiju described the demonstration as “shameful” and alleged it was a premeditated conspiracy by Congress to tarnish India’s image on an international stage.
Rejiju further stated, “While the entire nation condemns the acts of Congress at the summit, the party and its leaders are unwilling to apologize. When India progresses, Rahul Gandhi and Congress appear unhappy. Congress leaders and workers continuously conspire to defame the nation.”
He challenged Congress, asking, “When will you stop engaging in anti-national activities?”
What Happened at the AI Summit?
On Friday, at the high-profile India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Youth Congress activists entered the venue and staged a protest against the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing issues such as unemployment, inflation, and the India–US trade agreement.
Eyewitnesses reported that some protesters removed their shirts and posed in front of the summit’s display boards while shouting slogans. Security personnel quickly intervened, taking the protesters into custody and removing them from the venue to ensure that the international event continued without disruption.
