Nalanda Power Race: Who Will Secure a Cabinet Berth in Nitish Kumar’s New Government

?

As Bihar prepares for the grand swearing-in ceremony of the new NDA government today at Gandhi Maidan, all eyes are on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s home district, Nalanda, where political excitement has reached its peak. With the NDA securing a historic victory, three prominent leaders from the district are fiercely competing for a place in the new cabinet—Shravan Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar, and veteran leader Harinarayan Singh.

Harinarayan Singh: The Veteran With 10 Straight Wins

79-year-old Harinarayan Singh has once again proved why he is counted among JDU’s most influential figures. Despite his age, he secured his 10th consecutive electoral victory from Harnaut. His supporters argue that his work and long-standing contribution to the party make him a natural choice for ministerial inclusion—“Experience speaks louder than age.”

Shravan Kumar: The Trusted Face of Rural Development

Former Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar remains a strong contender. Known for his organisational command and development-centric image in Nalanda, he is seen as a stable and reliable option in the new cabinet. Sources within JDU suggest that the new team may focus on a blend of experience and continuity—criteria that Shravan Kumar comfortably fulfils.

Dr. Sunil Kumar: BJP’s Rising Influence in Nalanda

On the BJP side, Dr. Sunil Kumar, who served as the Minister of Climate and Environment, is emerging as a crucial face. For the first time, BJP has built a significant base in Nalanda through him. Seen as the party’s “effective new face,” Sunil Kumar fits into the BJP’s strategy of balancing seasoned leaders with impactful new entrants.

Caste–Regional Balance to Play a Decisive Role

NDA leadership is carefully weighing caste representation and regional balance while finalising the cabinet. With Nitish Kumar and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary steering the decision-making process, the political fate of all three aspirants from Nalanda rests on their final approval.
